چکیده
The use of functional foods and their bioactive components is receiving increasing attention as a complementary alternative therapy for chronic ulcerative colitis (UC). This study explored the protective effect mechanisms Eckol, seaweed-derived phlorotannin, on dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced UC in mice. Eckol (0.5–1.0 mg/kg) reduced DSS-enhanced disease activity indexes, alleviated shortening colon length colonic tissue damage contents tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6 were significantly decreased, level anti-inflammatory IL-10 was enhanced serum tissues collected from Eckol-treated mice compared with DSS controls. administration number apoptotic cells expression cleaved Caspase-3, increased B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2)/B-cell lymphoma-2- associated X (Bax) ratio DSS-challenged colons. There more cluster differentiation (CD)11c+ dendritic CD8+ T cells, less CD4+ infiltrated to inflamed groups. Expression Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), nuclear kappa-B (NF-κB) p65, phosphorylated-signal transducer activator transcription (pSTAT)3 down-regulated by group. In conclusion, our data suggest that appeared be potential food ingredient protection against UC. anti-colitis might attributed down-regulation TLR4/NF-κB/STAT3 pathway, inhibition inflammation apoptosis, well its immunoregulatory activity.

Therapeutic effect of imiquimod on dextran sulfate sodium-induced ulcerative colitis in mice
BACKGROUND Imiquimod is a Toll-like receptor-7 agonist that regulates immunity and can be used as an immune adjuvant. Ulcerative colitis has a close correlation with immune disorder. AIM To investigate the therapeutic effect of imiquimod on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis and explore the underlying mechanisms. METHODS C57BL/6J C57 mice received 3% DSS for 7 days to induce ulcer...
متن کاملProtective Effect of Calculus Bovis Sativus on Dextran Sulphate Sodium-Induced Ulcerative Colitis in Mice
Calculus Bovis Sativus (CBS) is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine, which has been reported to exhibit antispasmodic, fever-reducing, anti-inflammatory, and gallbladder-repairing effects. The present study aims to investigate the protective effect of CBS on dextran sulphate sodium- (DSS-) induced ulcerative colitis (UC) in mice. C57BL/6 male mice were exposed to 5% DSS in drinking wat...
متن کاملProtective Effect of Amphipterygium adstringens Extract on Dextran Sulphate Sodium-Induced Ulcerative Colitis in Mice
Amphipterygium adstringens is an endemic species in Mexico commonly known as "cuachalalate." Healers to treat gastritis, gastric ulcers, and gastrointestinal cancer have traditionally used the bark. We investigated the effects of alcoholic extract of A. adstringens (AaEE) in DSS-induced colitis in mice. The protective effect of AaEE was determined at 200 mg/kg by oral gavage for 10 days. We det...
متن کاملProtective Effect of Daikenchuto on Dextran Sulfate Sodium-Induced Colitis in Mice
Aim. To investigate the effect of daikenchuto (TJ-100; DKT) for ulcerative colitis (UC) model mouse and assess its anti-inflammatory mechanisms. Methods. We evaluated the effects of DKT on dextran sulfate sodium- (DSS-) induced experimental colitis. First, we assessed the short-term effects of DKT using two groups: 5% DSS group and 5% DSS with DKT group. Colon length; histological scores; and i...
متن کاملCalycosin attenuates dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced experimental colitis
Objective(s):Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) results from dysregulation of intestinal mucosal immunity. It is an incurable disease that affects millions of people worldwide. Developing new strategies for the treatment of colitis has been a major challenge. Here, we report the effect of calycosin, a plant-derived flavonoid, in successfully managing colitis in murine model. Material and Methods:...
